“Masterplan” is a piece of the duo “Mighty Fruits” from Berlin. In search for a look that would complement the electro pop music, we went for a graphically abstract and stilized look.
The production took place for about 4 weeks, but having lectures in the morning and afternoons we were restricted to work in the evenings and at the weekends only.

We produced the short film MTSAT during the third term of the course Diploma Digital Artist. The production of several short films is part of the curriculum – whereas this most recent project can be considered the climax for us so far, referring to complexity as well as quality.
The intention was to achieve a high-quality look while using the limited time resources to their full capacity. Maximum tension and credibility to meet the requirements of an action movie was one of the objectives too.

The idea with “Lenny the Lion” was to produce an animated short movie which strives to somehow recreate the snappy and rubber hose kind of animation style of the classical cartoons of the 1940s and 50s from studios like MGM or Warner Bros..
So animation in my short film is exaggerated and over the top. It doesn’t want to be realistic – it wants to be surprising and appealing. The visual style also boils down to the fact: simpler is better! So I didn’t use elaborate shaders or complex textures, mainly I stayed with simple materials. All those mind-blowing effects didn’t exist in the 1940s anyway.
With my choice of music I wanted to support what is going on in the film, so I went for a quirky big band sound. I used sound effects very sparingly since the music is so strong and impulsive.

I produced this super short film from scratch in only 4 days as part of a course with Roger Wilson.
Considering the time constraints I had to reduce everything to the optimal minimum that was needed to tell the story.

This was my first short film created using a 3D Application.
On the one hand I did this for learning purposes, on the other hand I wanted to use it for my application at The German Film School.
